Merry Christmas!

Life has been very busy lately, partly due to the Christmas season so forgive me for not posting very often. Damon is doing great! His last appointment with Dr Tong was the beginning of December and he got to stop taking his lasix and his xray looked good. He doesn't have to go back until March. He is growing and getting more mature every day. He is turning more into a little boy and not so much a toddler, which is bitter sweet for mama!

We are still looking forward to whatever may be in store for him with the Make-A-Wish foundation and I'll keep you posted on any updates we get. We want to wish you a Merry Christmas! We are grateful every day for Jesus and his sacrifice for us. We celebrate his birth with full hearts this year. Happy New Year to you all as well! May it bring good health, and lots of happiness.

Lastly, around the time we were in StL for Damon's last surgery I received a comment here from a woman named Heather. She was pregnant with baby Parker, who was going to be born with HLHS like Damon. Heather and her husband Adam are from Neosho, a city not far from Carl Junction where we live. Heather and I texted back and forth and them the week before Christmas Damon and I met her and Adam. They were so nice and I just could remember every feeling they were having like it was happening all over again. They left for STL on the 17th with plans to have Parker by c-section on the 22nd. Heather went into labor before that and delivered him sometime that weekend, I'm not sure of the date.

Parker's atrial septum was already starting to close before he was born so that was going to be an issue that needed to be addressed immediately after he was born. a few days after he was born she texted me and said that he was doing well. Yesterday she texted me a picture of him and I could tell he hadn't had his surgery yet so I asked her if they knew when it would be and she said his lungs were filling up with fluid and the drs had told them to prepare to say goodby. Please pray very hard for this sweet family for God to come through with a miracle for baby Parker.

But I can...

Last year, in first grade, Myles always came home with these half sheets of paper that were stapled together. Sometimes there would be writing on them and drawings like he had made a little book, but then sometimes they would just be blank. I usually just threw them away unless they were really cute. So tonight I was putting the boys to bed and I looked in their closet and saw that it was a mess so I was putting all the dress up costumes in their place and finding shoe matches and I came across a whole bunch of those little booklets piled up in the corner of the closet. I stacked them up with the intention of throwing them out and then I saw one that said this" Do Not Open. But I can but you cant."

China

Myles came home from school the other day and as we were talking about his day he says "Mom do you know about a china?" I say yes, china is a country. He says "No mom its when you have a heart problem." (Angina LOL!)

A few days before that I was putting the boys to bed and Myles' stuffed animal he sleeps with was out in the car. He wanted me to go get and I said "Are you sure you need it Myles?" "Is it raining?" he asks. "Yes," I say. "Good luck mom," he tells me.

Stay beautiful

I haven't updated this in a while so I have several things to put on here.

The other day Myles was wanting me to play Bakugan with him. So we sat down on the floor and got all ready and then he realized that he forgot something in the other room. He got up to go get it and he says "I'll be right back. Stay beautiful mom."

Damon was really upset the other day and he was crying and crying. He asks me "Mommy can you give me a Kleenex so I can wipe this cry off my face?"

We went down to Arkansas to see my aunt and uncle two weeks ago and they have a dog named Dixon. He's very sweet and slobbery and loves attention. He also loves it when little boys who are short aren't paying attention to their food their holding and he can come up and steal it. So Damon was eating an ice cream cone and he was on high alert watching out for Dixon. Dixon was hovering around, sniffing and eying that cone and Damon says to my Aunt "Julie, Dixon keeps getting in my area."

Like you mean it?

Myles always wants me to rub his back before he goes to sleep. And Damon wants me to scratch his. So usually I am taking turns between them, but sometimes I will hold Damon and scratch his back while I'm rubbing Myles'. That is about the same level of difficulty as rubbing your belly and patting your head. It's hard and takes more concentration than I have after working 12 hours then going straight to class for 3. So I wasn't paying attention to rubbing Myles' back, at least not as much as he wanted me to. So he says "Mom, rub my back like you mean it."

Turkey what?

I've been working at my new job for about a month and I had to get a TB (tuberculosis) test before I started. The company's policy is for you to get another one about a month after your start date so this week I went and got another test. Today I had to go back to the place to have them check the spot. So this morning I was getting Damon dressed and he asked me where we were going. I told him to the gym, to the place for them to check if I have tuberculosis, to Pa's and then to Lacey's. He looks at me and says "To check if you have turkeylosis?" Yes, I said, because I definitely don't want either one. I don't have them by the way.

Random Wonderings

Tonight at Myles' soccer practice I was chatting with some friend from high school who are expecting a baby boy in June. Since I have two of them, I was telling them what I knew. Damon was running around acting just as little boys do and they were laughing at him. He ran up to me at one point and said "Mom how do you make cinnamon rolls?" Then he ran off. Then a little while later he comes back up to me and asks "Mom, how fast can you run?" Not too fast was my answer.

The book of Romance?

Myles is playing soccer in a league called Upwards. It's a Christ based organization and every week they are given a memory verse to learn for the next week. Last week he got one from Romans and he was reading it to me and then he sounded out the word Romans. I told him to read the whole thing so he says "God sent him, Jesus, to die in our place and take away our sins. Romance 3:25"

Say again?

The other night we went to Big Lots to get a birthday present for Hadley, our niece. We were looking around at all the good deals to be found and Jeremy saw some Oreos with yellow filling for springtime. He showed them to Myles and this was Myles' response, "Tripple bipple monkey nipple!"

So excited

Today Damon and I went to my mom's to hang out. My nephew Carson was gonna be there too and he and Damon love to play together. Mom told me that she told Carson that Damon was coming to play while he was coloring a picture. She said he kept on coloring and said "I.am.so.excited.I.could.cut.my.brain.in.half." Just like that. He's four.

The Last Cupcake

My bf Lacey made cupcakes one night for church and she brought home the left overs. The next day her oldest, Alivia wanted to eat one but there was only one left. Lacey told her that daddy was gonna get the last one. Alivia didn't think that was fair, even after Lacey explained that daddy always gets the last one. So that night after dinner Alivia goes up to her daddy and says real nonchalant "Hey daddy, how about you and me play paper, rock, scissors..........for the cupcake." She cheated. She still didn't get to eat it.

Reminder

Last week Damon and I just got settled in the bed to take a nap and he pops his head up and says "Mommy you forgot somephing." "What's that?" I said, thinking maybe he needed one of his buddies or his blanket or something. He says "You need to get a job."

Booger Strings?

Creating this blog is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. The idea has been floating around in the back of my head for probably a couple of years now. I put it off for several reasons, the most prominent being the lack of spare time in my life. Nothing has changed in that regard; I haven't gained any extra time, but I feel it is selfish of me to keep these things to myself any longer. They must be shared!

I'm calling this blog "The Things They Say." So who are "they" you ask? Simple: children. More specifically my children, and others that I know and love. And yours too, if you're so inclined to share their words with me. It's just that kids say some pretty hilarious stuff and people always say "Oh you should write that down!" But I never have and I don't think I can bare for another one to be forgotten. So here goes...

*Warning: Keeping it real alert.*

Everyone knows that the dryness of winter time. Little Damon (my youngest) woke up this morning with a hoarse cough after breathing in the dry air last night. Well poor Myles (my oldest) has had a little bit of a problem with his nose being dry. And he keeps getting really big dry boogers in there. Gross I know, but like I warned you I'm keeping it real here. Anyway, I've been trying to get him to get this one out for two days and he says he tries but he can't get it and he won't let me help him. So last night we were on our way home and I told him to try to get it again. I also told him that if he didn't get it out by the time we got home that I was going to get it out one way or another. (Now at this point I think I should tell you that Myles is one of the hairiest 6 year olds in the world. He came out covered in hair, which they told us would fall out. It didn't. His back is covered in peach fuzz and he has the shadow of a mustache. His feet are hairy. Hair every where.) So back to the booger. He tried to get at it for a second. Then he tells me "Mom I can't get it. It's too hard because sometimes they are hooked to booger strings and it hurts me." I let it go after that and laughed all the way home.
